| Two versions of the author instructions are available; a short version (also available on the inside cover of the journal) outlining the format of articles, and a longer version with the specific norms of the journal, including such things as stratigraphic nomenclature. These can be obtained in PDF format.

| Submission, review and resubmission processes |
| |
- Manuscripts must be submitted in the format outlined in the author instructions.
- The manuscript will be sent to at least two reviewers and one member of the editorial advisory board.
- Once the reviews are received, the editorial committee of Geologica Acta will decide if the article is acceptable, and if so return it to the corresponding author for correction. If the article is unacceptable, then it will be rejected.
- The authors of accepted articles must then revise the manuscript according to the comments of the reviewers and the editorial committee and return it to the editor.
- When the manuscript has been revised to the specifications of the editorial committee it will be accepted for publication.

|
Once the revised manuscript has been received and accepted for publication, the corresponding author can obtain the status of the article by asking the Editorial Assistant.

The commercial rights of the printed and online versions of the journal Geologica Acta are property of the UB, ICTJA, IDAEA, UAB, IGC, UPC and the CSIC, and this source must be cited for any partial or full reproduction.

| Author's rights |
The authors retain the copyright on their respective papers (accepted(1), uncorrected proofs(2) and final published versions) and are authorized to post them on their own Web page or in their institutional repository. In all cases, the complete citation and a link to the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of the article must be included.
The authors can use excerpts or reproduce illustrations of their respective papers in other works without prior permission of Geologica Acta provided there is full acknowledgement of its original source including the complete citation.

* (1) Accepted manuscript:
these are articles that contain the authors' corrections following peer review and that have been accepted for publication. The contents of the article will normally remain unchanged and the possibility of further corrections is limited.
* (2) Uncorrected proofs:
these are articles adapted to the printed format of the journal before undergoing copyediting and proof correction. Corrections will be reduced to a minimum.
